I’m so excited that Baltimore Bride magazine has featured us as their Wedding of the Month! ♡

Wedding of the Month Kate & Tom | sunshine & the bear

Looking through all of the photos again and answering their questions made me so happy! It was like reliving the moments all over again…

See original post here for all of my answers & more photos!

Occupations: Kate runs the media relations department for the National Aquarium and Tom oversees digital marketing for a company in Columbia, MD.

Wedding Date: May 31, 2014

Number of Attendees: 120

Number of Attendants: Six bridesmaids, four groomsmen, two ring bearers and one flower girl.

How You Met: Although Kate and Tom originally met through joint work meetings, their relationship truly flourished through Twitter. 140 characters at a time, they grew closer and, after hanging out a few times, they knew it was something real.

katekatebear thefrontrowe engagement | sunshine & the bear The Engagement: Tom proposed in Boston with the help of his adorable nephews. Kate was teaching the boys how to do gymnastics, so at first she barely realized what was going on. They sweetly asked if Kate would be their aunt . . . then immediately after, if everyone could go mini golfing.

Wedding Design Inspiration: Kate and Tom’s style is a quirky take on classic . . . their own fun twist on the simple and elegant.

What was unique and special about your wedding: Kate and Tom had a blast trying to balance between nerdy and elegant. But, whatever they did, it just needed to feel like “them.” Kate and Tom had superhero action figures holding place cards, succulents in Kate’s bouquet, a raw bar and sake at cocktail hour, fried chicken as a main course option and more. It was all Tom and Kate, all the time.

Favorite Details: The nerdy, the food and the TomKat. The same nephews who helped with the proposal helped as Kate and Tom’s ring bearers and rocked superhero bow ties. Kate and Tom tried not to take it too far, but incorporated Tom’s love of comics where they could. The food was incredible. PABU (now closed, unfortunately) was one of the couple’s favorite restaurants so why wouldn’t they host their reception at PABU! There was sushi for miles, chilled coconut lemongrass soup and incredible main dishes. PABU’s pastry chef took Kate’s love of pies (yes, pie not cake!) to a whole new level, making traditional and many more pie creations including a coconut pie milkshakes and chocolate pie shots. The team at PABU created a signature drink for the newlyweds called the TomKat. It was made up of some of their favorite things and it was the BEST. Bourbon, fresh peach juice, honey and mint. What more could you ask for? Put it in two cute Mr. and Mrs. Mason jar mugs from etsy and Kate and Tom were set for the night!

Most unexpected event on the day of the wedding: The congratulatory spout from the Baltimore City Fire Boat. While out taking photos, Kate and Tom’s friend got the boats attention and gave them a watery salute.

Piece of advice: Kate was given one piece of advice that brought her through the wedding (even the head chef of Pabu leaving the week before the wedding!): Pick three things that matter most for your wedding. Those things are what you spend your energy, money and stress on. Everything else is just in the details and will work itself out!

Honeymoon destination: Hermitage Bay, Antigua

Bridesmaids’ attire: Lula Kate from Baltimore’s local Bella Bridesmaid shop.

Cake: No cakes for them…PIE all the way! The Four Seasons lead pastry chef Dyan Ng, took Kate and Tom’s favorite pie flavors and made them incredible creations! Peach melba pie was traditional, as Kate’s favorite. Coconut pie became a coconut pie milkshake. Chocolate pie became a chocolate pie shooter. Pecan pies were cut up and made into fried pie bars.

Caterer: PABU

Flowers: JJ Cummings

Groom and Groomsmen attire: Tom wore a beautiful navy tux while his groomsmen wore black tuxes. They all had their own special cufflinks and comfortable, stylish sneakers.

Hair & Make-up: Stacie Snyder is an angel, who made Kate look and feel like a beam of sunshine for her special day!

Invitations: Tom designed the save the dates, incorporating their superhero theme. Then Kate and her mom designed the official invites together. They were printed by Bella Figura.

Location: The Four Seasons

Music: Kate’s brother played acoustic guitar for the wedding and they had the talented DJ Jason Gray at the reception.

pete redel photography - bmorerowe wedding Officiant: Nelle Somerville, the couple’s close friend, got ordained and performed a touching ceremony.

Wedding Dress: Kate’s dress was strapless Marisa design with ivory alencon lace over a café silhouette.

[Wedding] Bridesmaid dresses

I love green. Like…a lot. Hence, my bridesmaids all wore a beautiful green for our wedding!

We purchased them at Bella Bridesmaids here in Baltimore. They have locations all over the country though! The owner of our local shop, Whitney, was super sweet and helped us with everything!

We spent an afternoon trying on different brands and styles, and landed on the amazing designer Lula Kate! The AWESOME thing about Lula Kate dresses is that you can pick your top, waistline and skirt and match, mix and match, etc. It’s like your own personal Destiny’s Child maker! WOOOOO!

We chose one color (green), all the same skirts and waist, then three different style tops! The different styles really worked for my girls’ different personalities and body shapes. It’s honestly one of the smarter ideas I’ve come across – part of me wishes all clothes could be like this! haha

The ladies looked STUNNING on the big day! I wouldn’t have wanted to be surrounded by more amazing, gorgeous ladies (in hot dresses)!

Definitely check out Lula Kate and Bella Bridesmaids if you’re a bride looking for great looks!!

[Wedding] Hair & Makeup

You know those days when you actually take a second and look in the mirror and feel pretty confident…?

Well, hopefully your wedding is one of those days. Mine DEFINITELY was because of the amazing skills and talents of my friend and stylist Stacie Snyder!

Stacie has been doing my hair for a while at Bombshell Salon here in Maryland AND she’s a talented makeup artist AND Paul Mitchell National Educator…aka she’s pretty qualified. I knew basically since I met her that I wanted her to do my wedding day styling…

She worked with me and talked out what I was thinking. Don’t think I made it easy either! I wanted something that felt vintage, but had body, etc. etc. SO NEEDY :) But she went with it! We planned out the look and tested a few things and voila…magic.

She worked hard with me and my bridesmaids all morning to get us all looking our best!

And when it was all done, it was just stunning…she’s so incredibly skilled!

I ended up with the cat eye eyeliner I wanted, the pouty red lips (same lipstick as Gwen Stefani!), poufy bouffant hair WITH a vintage curl. Plus flowers over my low bun and a bird cage veil!

Luckily, Stacie and I are friends so even if she wasn’t doing my style, she was invited to the wedding….which was AWESOME because she was there to touch me up every once and while! haha

So happy! If you’re in the general area, I completely recommend checking her out! For special occasions or just to get on her regular roster for hair!

Not only did we get beautiful photos, but we got a TON of photos! Pete ended up with more than 1,700 images to give us at the end of the day! I could barely narrow them down enough to post to a few to the blog! Hope you enjoy some of my favorites below.

And, as I’ve said, call Pete if you ever need some stunning photos. He always delivers. :)

We had a beautiful day this past Saturday with friends and family right here in the beautiful Baltimore harbor at the Four Seasons. As I said, our photographer Pete Redel is super skilled…he gave us a little tease with this pic from the weekend but he’s still working on the rest. I can’t wait to share more!

Stay tuned! :)
